Riptide Swim Team

SAVE THE DATE!

Arrive at 5p or 5:30p to hear a brief 10 minute presentation and then stay to ask questions.

If you are new to the neighborhood or have children that may be ready to swim more, you really don’t want to miss out on this information! How old are kids when they usually start? How far do they swim? What are meets like? What equipment do you need? What fun/social things do we do on swim team?

For 30 years, the VR Riptide has fostered a love of swim in our community. Every year, we encourage new swimmers to join the team! Our youngest swimmers generally start around age 6 or 7 and swim until age 18. Please sign-up for local lessons this spring to keep practicing what children learned in past summers. Even swimming just one day a week really helps them hit the water with confidence when the pool opens.

Swim Team is not a “lesson or learn to swim” program. This requirement is first and foremost for safety, but also so coaches can teach technique and help swimmers develop in all four strokes.

Minimum Requirements for Swimmers & Parents are:

  • Swimmers must swim freestyle, unassisted, 25 meters (length of pool) to be on swim team

  • Parent requirements: Volunteering. It takes close to 50 people to run a meet (5 jobs per family is required during the season, 4 of those jobs must be worked at swim meets, only 1 can be social). We simply can’t run a swim team without parent volunteers!

Come talk to Riptide parents and learn more about the team. We look forward to seeing you on March 15.
